SYMPHONY #90
Our first roundtable discussion featured Oklahoma Haydn Festival's own Jose Batty (personnel manager) and Jim Waddelow (artistic director/conductor) discussing Symphony #90, which we will be performing in the summer of 2021. Both our speakers included enlightening historical details and analysis highlighting that Haydn was indeed a funny guy.

Dr. Ruhling facilitated a lively lecture and discussion of connections between Symphony #22 and Haydn's religious works, questions of performance practice, and historical context.

Our final roundtable discussion was led by Afton Wooten, who explored feminist issues in the performance history of Haydn's comic opera La Canterina. This presentation sparked a wonderful conversation around some tough questions about ethical and artistic issues involved in performing composers or works with controversial or problematic associations.
